Preseason NFC Predictions

A few days ago, I posted my AFC predictions for this season. Now comes the NFC...

NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
I am buying the hype. The Eagles made some great moves this offseason, acquiring many top-tier players (Nnamdi Asomugha, Jason Babin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie), but the main reason they will win their division is because of their quarterback, Michael Vick. Vick experience a resurgence last year after returning to football. With two great receivers in Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson, look for him to build on his great year.

NFC South: Atlanta Falcons
This is one of the more-hotly contested divisions in the NFL, with the Falcons, Bucs, and Saints all looking to take home the crown. With that said, this is going to be the Falcons' division this year. They won the division last year and, in my eyes, took that extra step to becoming one of the elite teams in the league. They are solid at almost every offensive position and their defense will give the offense a chance every Sunday. Look for the Buccaneers and Saints to fight for one of those wild card spots though.

NFC North: Green Bay Packers
Last year's Super Bowl champs retain most of their core starters for this year, and that makes them not only the favorite for this division, but for the Super Bowl as well. Both their offense and defense are top-notch. There will be competition though (the Lions are an under-the-radar team that I think will be a real difference-maker in the NFC North), however, I still have to go with the Packers.

NFC West: Arizona Cardinals
None of these four teams are great, but only two have a fully solved quarterback situation: the Cardinals and the Rams. If I had to choose between these two teams, I'd have to go with the Cardinals. The Cardinals have a better receiving core (see: Larry Fitzgerald) and a better defense.Look for Kolb and Fitzgerald to light it up this season. As long as the defense gives them a chance, the Cardinals' offense should win them this weak division.

Wild Card: New Orleans Saints
The Saints have flown under-the-radar a little bit this offseason but the fact of the matter is that they still have one of the greatest aerial attacks in the league. Drew Brees has a monster arm and the stats to show it. They got a wild card spot last year. Look for them to do it again.

Wild Card: Detroit Lions
You're probably scratching your head right now and checking to make sure that that wasn't a typo. Don't worry, it's not. I truly believe that the Lions have what it takes to compete this year and make it to the playoffs. I see at least 11 winnable games on their schedule this year. The Packers got a wild card spot last year with 10! The Lions have what it takes to defy expectations this year, and I believe that they will.
